Project purpose and goal

SIAS Oaxaca is an analysis firm that provides information to their clients about politics, geography, crime and the socioeconomic environment in the state of Oaxaca, México. They approached me with the idea of making a news website for them. Their goal was to launch a website where their analysts can publish information that is not reported anywhere else.

  • Creation of a document with user expectations, advantages and disadvantages, decision matrices.

  • Creation of proofs-of-concept to analyze different technologies.

  • Budgeting (Domain, hosting, employee training).

  • Complete design, web design, UX, logo design, banners design, promotion videos.

  • Social media accounts creation and management, auto posting.

  • Implementation of the technology, building the website, changes based on feedback.

  • Search Engine Optimization and Google Analytics.

  • Account management.

  • Employee training, training documents, documentation.

  • Technical support.

I was in charge of the project from the planning stage into the deployment and subsequent support of it. The clients and I met up multiple times to determine what technologies would the website use, what it should include, how it should be designed and how their budget would work, and then it was my task to develop and deliver the website, plus provide employee training.

My tasks

Design phase

After sketching on paper some designs for the website alongside the clients, I used Figma to create and present what different layouts for the webpage could look like, after agreeing upon a design, I iterated on it based on design and UX rules and used it as a prototype for how the website would be built.

Development

After defining clients' expectations and the analysis of technologies, I chose to go for a WordPress website, the reason being that it allows the editors of the site and other users to very easily add their articles to the site, the process is very streamlined and intuitive, and it would allow me to focus more time in the construction of the site, rather than on employee training.
